1959 - Curved Clip
MS 64 FB

This coin presents much more blue-green until you get some light on it! A minor curved clip can be seen at the 12:00 position.

How they come: One of the most prevalent dates/mints to be found in full bands holders is the 1959 from Philadelphia. Get a fun one you like, there’s something for everyone out there, even with nice toning in gem grades for any budget. This example coin here was purchased for less than sixty dollars!

FS-504: The fourth 1959-D repunched mintmark that Fivaz and Stanton declared significant for either their rarity, dramatic appearance, or they thought it was just plain special! This one is in fact iconic for the year and the series!

HEAVY HITTER!

The second of two reference photos PCGS provides for this variety in full bands on their Coinfacts database. I am only aware of the 3 that PCGS has graded in full bands and have seen about a half dozen others graded without the attribution or full bands across the companies. The photograph fails to do the beautiful rainbow toning justice, for that area that shows up as a sooty smear from IN GOD WE TRUST to LIBERTY is in fact another patch of beautiful rainbow color. Sometimes it’s hard to capture it all in one shot, especially while also best showing the details of the coin as a whole! Die scratches, mostly vertically, are visible on both faces.

If you were so inclined as to go to the top Roosevelt variety registry sets and see what they’re missing, I can almost guarantee you you will not find a single set with 1959-D FS-502 (until you get to mine)! To date I have clicked through set after set and not found another owner of this exquisitely rare variety.
