1948-S Proof-Like RPM-006
MS 67 PL
Perhaps FT wasn’t considered once NGC established it was Proof-Like as this is virtuously ubiquitous with an early die state, but needless to say, I think this coin has Full Bands. It is worth noting on the reverse the failure of the strike to completely fill out the letters of ONE DIME towards the rim, possibly due to a dirty die. The weakness can also be seen in the same spot on other Proof-Like examples of the 1948-S dime, but this is nonetheless the highest grade Mint State Roosevelts I own! Attractive peach toning graces mostly the obverse around the rim, most concentrated towards the bottom. The reverse is sporting a repunched mintmark, RPM-006, a variety not yet attributed by grading services. The reflective Proof-Like surfaces span the gap between extreme luster and polished proof finished, a byproduct in this case I suspect of this coin being struck very soon after preparation of the die, as seen by all the fine die scratches running mostly vertical on both sides.
