1950
PR 66 DCAM

Now that’s a coin! What a treasure to own a deep cameo from 1950! Absolutely insane that this coin from 1950 can compete with the best of any year for deepest cameo contrast. The condition is exceptional and gem quality, to not have really any visible glue spots from the mint packaging is a bonus and a rarity in its own right.

I love the case-hardening effect at the 6:00 position on the obverse and on DIME on the reverse up through the right dot. This example is among the lowest graded with this variety attribution, at “ONLY” a PR 64, but with complex toning and being the only discovered variety for the lowest proof mintage of the series at 51,386, I was elated to find this coin and am ecstatic to have it in my collection! I’m no expert but this is one of those coins I’d like to see the toning on a lifetime or two from now; something’s telling me it’s got more left to develop!

Neon psychedelic rainbow with a massive swath of teal ringed with a bright berry pink. Contact marks down the side of the cheek give the President a serious edge, just look at those stone-cold eyes! A fun little repunched mintmark with a big slash-like bar from the upper end of the S down through the middle. On the reverse, a faint rainbow spreads across STATES OF AMERICA and tickles into view around the rest of the reverse’s mostly white field. The repunched mintmark is a variety not yet attributed by grading services.
