This example also shows strike doubling, or “worthless doubling,” a result of a coin bouncing slightly which can and often does present as doubling, but we know this not to be the case. This is a very minor variety and as such I am not terribly worried about having such an example in my collection. Generally speaking, I would try and avoid coins with significant strike doubling especially for doubled die varieties. At best, it’s a minor hindrance to finding the areas with true doubling. At worst, it can lead to misdiagnosis or it presents in a way that partially or entirely defaces the actual doubling from the die. Anyway, just because a coin has one doesn’t mean it can’t have the other!
